Taking over the beach! Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic planned at Carlin Park
Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch is hosting its 3rd Annual Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic at Carlin Park on Jupiter beach Aug. 26.
This dog surfing competition is the only one of its kind in Palm Beach County, and has become a Jupiter tradition.
Surf dog registration is at 7:45 a.m., and at the same time the vendor village will become the place to shop - featuring pet related items and services, and local businesses.
A "blessing of the animals on the beach" is for anyone to bring their pet, at 8:15 a.m.
The dog surf heats begin at 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. featuring the judges - Jason Pennington with the KVJ morning show on WRMF, local surfers Jeffrey Tutt and Michael Bloom, pro surfer Lyn Meyers and meteorologist James Wieland, WPTV's Surfin’ Weatherman.
Emcee will be Don French, owner of Ocean Magic surf shop in Jupiter.
Bark and Brunch all day
Enjoy the new Bark and Brunch all day starting at 9 a.m. sponsored by Kathie Kaminske with Golden Bear Realty and the Affinity Construction Group. Brunch tickets are $7 and will be provided by Carrabba’s, Cod & Capers Seafood, Another Broken Egg, Tito’s Vodka, Voga, and Oceana Coffee.
An Awards Ceremony will feature trophies for first, second, and third place in each heat, and will begin at 11 a.m. Furry Friends will introduce a parade of adoptable animals to hopefully become new members of local families.
A fun Cowabunga Kids Zone is being presented by the New City Church and the Oceanview United Methodist Church. It will feature activities all day, including arts and crafts, and will have a photo booth for owners and their pets
Music will be provided throughout the day - from steel drums to the classic rock sounds of local favorite, the Sierra Band at 11:30 a.m.
Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic, & Ranch is a 501c 3 not-for-profit, based in Jupiter, and is the only no kill rescue organization in the northern Palm Beach county.
Organizers urge everyone to come out and support the local shelter that has been rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming homeless animals in the Jupiter area community for more than 30 years.
'Most wonderful family event'
"This is the most wonderful family event with all of the proceeds helping to pay for the cost of feeding and caring for the many animals in our no kill shelter. It is quite a sight to see dogs on surf boards surrounded by their cheering family members" said Pat Deshong, president of Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch.
