From inventive names and logos to brand new buildings, Camberley has a transformative few months ahead.

After Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) bought The Mall in 2016, refurbishing the shopping centre and other parts of the town have been high on the agenda.

It was announced in May that £110 million will be invested to transform the town centre into a "modern, entertaining and fun place to shop and socialise".

The refurbishment of Camberley's shopping centre, which has just been renamed from The Mall to The Square, is well under way, but there are more changes to come.

The Square

The shopping centre now has a new "vibrant" name and "fresh" logo to accompany its revamp.

On Tuesday (September 5), SHBC announced that The Mall will now be called 'The Square'.

An (almost) square-shaped logo was also unveiled.

After the building's ceiling received a fresh lick of paint in May, the first phase of construction began on Grace Reynolds Walk in July .

SHBC reassured shoppers and retailers that the work will be completed by the Christmas shopping period and construction will take place outside of trading hours.

The main redevelopment of The Square is expected to kick start in early 2018.

Ashwood House and Pembroke House

Both buildings have been derelict for more than a decade and developer Berkeley Homes has been set the task of transforming the properties into "high quality residential accommodation".

Ashwood House, in Pembroke Way, is set to become 100 new apartments while Pembroke House, in Frimley Road, will become affordable housing for local people and retail space for local businesses.

Planning applications for both buildings were submitted in June following public consultation but have not yet been decided.

It is expected that work on both sites will begin by the end of the of the year.

Princess Way and the High Street

In May SHBC also confirmed improvement work to the town's public spaces, including the High Street, is underway.

The proposals followed a survey conducted on local services and a public consultation is set to be organised once plans are finalised.

London Road

SHBC has also announced plans to undertake "feasibility work" for a new development in London Road - what exactly is yet to be confirmed.

An outline of the planning application is expected to be submitted by the end of 2017.
