Press Release Eiffage wins a drinking water treatment and distribution contract in Dakar, Senegal

Eiffage, through its subsidiaries Eiffage Sénégal and Eiffage Génie Civil, has been entrusted with the second work package of the Keur Momar Sarr 3 (KMS 3) drinking water treatment and distribution project in Dakar, Senegal. This work is worth 34 million euros.

The contract covers the supply and laying of 38 kilometres of 1,500 mm diameter ductile iron pipes which are to be connected to the future water treatment plant.

The work, under the contracting authority of the Société Nationale des Eaux du Sénégal (Sones), is to be completed in 24 months.

This contract is part of a comprehensive project to boost the drinking water supply capacity of the city of Dakar from Lake Guiers, entailing the construction of a drinking water treatment and pumping plant with a capacity of 200,000 m³/day (package 1) to be commissioned in 2020, installing a third water main designed to deliver 200,000 m³/day from Keur Momar Sarr to water storage tanks in Thiès and Sébikotane, and then Dakar, and upgrading and extending distribution systems.

The KMS 3 project will meet the growing water needs, expected to reach 550,000 m³/day by 2025 compared with 370,000 m³/day in 2015, as well as improving service quality and continuity in Dakar and better cater to the needs of new economic activity centres.

KMS 3 is financed by five multilateral backers: AFD, EIB, IDB, WB and ADB.

Following the signing in June of a design and build contract for a desalination plant in Djibouti, this contract provides Eiffage with another opportunity to play a part in an African development project.
