Small-craft advisory in effect for Arkansas River boaters

The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small-craft advisory for the Arkansas River.

Recent rain across Oklahoma and Arkansas have caused flows to rise. Small-craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second.

Strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft during high flows.

Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam at Fort Smith were about 75,000 cfs Sunday, and flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville were also 75,000 cfs and rising. Flows at Murray Lock and Dam in Little Rock and downstream were expected to rise above 70,000 cfs by Sunday afternoon.

More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer.

Daily river information can be obtained at swl-wc.usace.army.mil.
