IMAM Bacchus Sports Club of Affiance on the Essequibo Coast endured mixed fortunes on their three-day tour of Suriname which concluded last Sunday.

Their first T20 fixture was against Amar Shakti Cricket Club whom they defeated by 36 runs on Friday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Bacchus SC posted 160-7 from their allotted 20 overs, thanks to solid batting performances from former national Youth players Parmesh Parsotam 41 and Nathan Persaud 34 as well as a brisk 24 from Neiland Cadogan.

Former national Youth player Mahendra Boodram, who now plays for Suriname, claimed 2-25 from his 4 overs bowling off-spin, while Ravi Persaud supported with 2-31 from his 4 overs of medium-fast bowling.

In response, the hosts found themselves struggling from the inception, losing three early wickets in the first 6 overs of the power-play.

Captain Mahendra Boodram, however, kept his composure to register a fluent half-century but in vain. Only extras with a healthy 30 boosted the score as the hosts reached 124-6 when their overs expired, to give Bacchus SC a convincing victory. Latchman Rohit with 2-21 and Lalbachan Narine 2-27 were the wicket-takers.

On Sunday, Bacchus SC came up against a Suriname Select XI but were outplayed as the hosts took revenge in a match reduced to 15 overs due to rain.

Batting first again, Bacchus XI made 135-6 from their 15 overs with the in-form Nathan Persaud blasting 47 and Rohit striking 46. Ishwar Singh with figures of 3-26 from his 3 overs bowled impressively.

In reply, the game came down to the wire as the Select XI defied the buoyancy of the visitors’ accurate bowling and fielding. Imran Khan with 35, Ramjohn Singh 33 and Khemraj Lall with an unbeaten 26 steered the Select XI to 136-5 in 14.5 overs for a 5-wicket win.

After the matches, exchange of plaques was done by the three competing teams. The captains expressed gratitude for the cordial atmosphere in which the games were played.

Bacchus XI have also extended an invitation to the hosts to visit Guyana for a similar tour.
