Gov. Reynolds details rent, mortgage aid during COVID-19 pandemic
Gov. Kim Reynolds detailed aid available for renters and homeowners struggling to pay rent or mortgages during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The governors’ moratorium on evictions and foreclosures expired Wednesday.
During the governor’s daily COVID-19 news conference, Reynolds and Iowa Finance Authority Director Debi Durham laid out the Iowa Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program.
Under the program, renters can receive four months of rental assistance up to $3,300. Homeowners can seek mortgage payment assistance of up to $3,000 dollars.
Financial assistance applies to payments beginning April 1.
To receive aid, Iowans must prove a loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Household income may not exceed 80% of the median family income and recipients cannot be receiving the additional $600 per week in CARES Act unemployment benefits.
All payments go to the landlord or the mortgage company.
