WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) – Waterbury Fire officials say no injuries were reported after a fire broke out at an apartment building Monday evening.

According to the Waterbury Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1339, crews were on the fire scene on William Street around 7 p.m.

Upon arrival, they found a three-story wood structure with heavy fire coming from the front upper two apartments and the cockloft. The building has six apartment units.

Fire officials said all occupants were able to escape, including a first-floor resident in a wheelchair who was assisted by firefighters.

“Many” cats, dogs, lizards and birds were also taken out without harm, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials said they do not know how many occupants were displaced.
