Wayne Rooney today kicked off his American Dream as wife Coleen and their kids were on holiday 3,500 miles away.

Roo lined up for his debut as Washington’s D.C. United played Vancouver Whitecaps at 1am UK time.

Coleen and their four sons, meanwhile, were tucked up in bed in Portugal.

They are set to join Rooney in the US before heading off to their £5million home in Barbados for another holiday.

Rooney, 32, is earning £10million a year after leaving Everton for DC.

He and Coleen, also 32, have spotted a £4.2million seven-bedroom and nine-bathroom home in the posh Kalorama district of Washington.

Locals include the likes of former US President Barack Obama.

Real estate expert Kevin Koitz said: “Kalorama is one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in DC. It’s known for its stunning ‘old world’ architecture, including many embassies and tree-lined streets.”

He said the district was not noted for trendy bars and restuarants and the social scene was “mostly at home”.
