The London-based Castalian Quartet will entertain audiences in Quibdó, Montería, Sincelejo, and Bogotá as part of their first Colombian tour, and that includes an all strings repertoire of works by Haydn, Fauré and Ravel.

Started in 2011, musicians Sini Simonen and Daniel Roberts (violins), Charlotte Bonneton (viola) and Christopher Graves (cello) have received critical acclaim on the international music scene, having won a prestigious awards, including first place at the 2013 Kammermusik Next Generation Competition in Hannover (2013), the 2015 Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, and the only European quartet to reach the live rounds of the 2016 Banff International String Quartet Competition.

As part of the National Concert Season of Colombia’s central bank – Banco de la República – the Quartet will perform three great classical works, starting with Quartet in C major, Op.76, ‘Emperor’ by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), String Quartet in E minor, Op. 121 by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), and String Quartet in F major by Maurice Ravel (1875 –1937).

Composed by Ravel towards the end of his life, String Quartet in F major is considered a masterful example of the rhythmic, lyrical and elegant style that characterized French music during the late 19th century and defined by the symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé as “the art of evoking an object slowly, to unveil its state of mind, or on the contrary, the art of choosing an object and extract from it, a state of mind.”

This year, Castalian String Quartet’s commitments include the presentation of the complete series of Haydn’s Op.76 quartets at the Wigmore Hall in London and concerts in Tel Aviv, the Spring Festival in Heidelberg and the Zwischentöne Festival in Engelberg.

The Bogotá concert takes place Sunday, August 26, at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are available at the Luis Ángel Arango Library (BLAA) or through online agents tuboleta.com.

General admission: $10.000 pesos
