Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has said that, in the context of peace and political stability, Cambodia is moving closer to eradicating all forms of malaria by 2025 through many important achievements.

This is according to the message of Prime Minister Hun Manet on the occasion of National Malaria Day under the theme “Promoting Equity, Health, Gender Equality, and Human Rights to Fight Malaria.”

The premier said that although malaria continues to plague human lives at all times and cause serious loss of productivity, affecting the public and socio-economic health of the world and Cambodia, Cambodia has been on the right track by actively participating with the world in supporting the achievement of the Malaria Free Goal through its efforts and high commitment to the implementation of the National Malaria Eradication Strategic Plan 2011-2025, which is an initiative of Hun Sen, former Prime Minister.

“In the context of peace, political stability, freedom, unity, dignity, and progress throughout Cambodia, we are moving closer to eradicating all forms of malaria by 2025 through significant achievements, including the prevention of malaria resistance since 2016 and the continued decline in the number of malaria cases to 1384 cases by 2023 and no malaria deaths since 2018 to the present,” the premier underlined.

The Prime Minister continued that “with these progresses and achievements, we must not forget that “we have not yet achieved the goal of a complete malaria eradication plan,” with major challenges that must be worked together to address and accelerate the implementation of the second phase of the Malaria Eradication Action Plan 2021-2025, especially to focus on providing diagnostic and treatment services for the remaining malaria cases in remote areas, the poor, pregnant women, young children, as well as indigenous peoples at high risk.
